Overview

Each note in Tern can be linked to one contact and one trip. These links let you find the note later when browsing a contact's record or a trip's activity feed, and let Tern's AI answer questions about the note in context.

Where to see the links

When you open a note you own, the drawer shows two chips at the top β€” one for the contact, one for the trip. If a link is already set, the chip shows the contact's name or the trip's name. If a link is missing, the chip shows a gray placeholder with a + icon.

Adding or changing a link

Click the empty placeholder or the pencil edit button to open the Edit Associations panel. From there:

  1. Search for the contact you want to link.

  2. Select from the results.

  3. Search for the trip you want to link.

  4. Select from the results and after clicking Save, changes apply without a page reload.

The chips in the drawer update to reflect the new links. You can also remove an existing link from this same panel.

Who can edit links

Only the note's owner can edit associations. If you're viewing a note created by another advisor, you'll see their linked contact as a read-only and cannot be edited.
