What does contact "ownership" mean in Tern?
Advisors and agencies can collaborate together on contacts. But there is always a single "owner" for any contact in Tern. There are a few specific things that only apply to contact owners:
The contact shows up in "my contacts" for them, instead of shared contacts
Only their automations & workflows apply to the contact
They are the only person who can edit tags for that contact
Only agency administrators and contact owners can manage collaborators
The tasks & automations tabs are not currently available for collaborators, just owners (although we plan to unlock these in the future)
How to transfer ownership
You'll find this option on the contact about tab, under collaboration.
Only contact owners or agency administrators can transfer ownership.
If your contact is shared with an agency, you can only transfer ownership to someone within the agency.
If your contact is shared with an agency, you'll still need to add the person you want to transfer ownership to as an individual collaborator first.
What happens when ownership transfers?
1. If you were the previous contact owner, you'll notice your permissions have been downgraded to 'collaborator access'
2. The new owner of the contact will get an email
3. If an agency administrator transferred the contact from a different owner, the original owner will also get an email
4. If the contact has a unique tag name not in the new owner's account, one will be created
