Overview

Think about your analytics suite as a one-stop shop for understanding your business in Tern. Key reports allow you to:

  • Review sales and commission data, like gross sales and commission amounts for specific time periods.

  • See projected commission, based on expected supplier payment dates.

  • See year over year KPIs (Key Performance Indicators), like year to date (YTD) bookings, gross sales, commission, and more.

  • Understand your clients, with info like top clients by gross sales / commission.

  • Understand your trips pipeline, to to see lead-to-bookings flow and catch stagnant leads.

After a beta period, your analytics suite will replace legacy Reporting in Tern.

We also have more reports coming soon, and plan to continue to add to this suite over time. Near-term additions will include:

  • Operations & Payments

  • Group Trip Operations

  • Sales by State (for tax reporting)

  • Canadian currency versions

Key capabilities

For any reports you can access, you'll see the ability to:

  • Filter by specific information - like agency or booking date

  • Download data from modules, using the 3-dot menu on the right

  • Sort on any column header to reorder data, by clicking on it

  • 'Show underlying data' from modules, using the 3-dot menu on the right.

    • This opens a modal with the displayed data, and lets you 'edit columns'.

    • From there, you can add any columns you want to the display to further drill in and export data.

    • Here's an example of doing this for my sales data, if I'm curious where numbers are coming from

Your KPIs

See year-to-date KPIs

And month-to-date KPIs

Your Sales

See bookings and gross sales data for the time periods and filters you apply

Access bookings and sales data by supplier

See sales by supplier category

See sales by product type

Product type is determined by a two-level hierarchy:

  • First by bookable_type (what kind of record the booking is for):

  • Trip Activity - Individual travel components booked separately

  • Package - Bundled payment for multiple trip components

  • Travel Insurance Option - Travel insurance products

For TripActivity bookings, further classified by supplier category:

  • Lodging → Accommodation

  • Air travel → Flight

  • Cruises → Cruise

  • Transportation or land → Ground Transport

  • Activities → Tour/Activity

  • Packaged travel → Tour Package

  • Dining and drinks → Food & Beverage

  • Trip protection → Travel Insurance

  • DMC → DMC Service

  • Other → Other Service

Package vs Tour Package:

  • Package: Package bookings - these are financial bundles where multiple trip components are paid together as one transaction

  • Tour Package: Trip Activity bookings where the supplier category is packaged_travel - these are pre-packaged tours from tour operators (e.g., an all-inclusive tour of Italy)

Tour Operator vs Cruise Line:

  • Both are supplier categories that determine product type:

    • Tour Operator: Suppliers with category packaged_travel create "Tour Package" products

    • Cruise Line: Suppliers with category cruises create "Cruise" products

The distinction is made at the supplier level when they're categorized in the system, then flows through to product type based on that categorization.
