Importing content
Import an itinerary to an existing trip
You can import an itinerary as an option on an existing trip in Tern.
Go to a webpage with a full itinerary
Click the floating Tern button or toolbar icon
Set the import type to Itinerary Template
Click the trip field and select a trip
Click Import to Trip
Import an itinerary to a new trip
You can create a new trip directly from the extension — no need to set it up in Tern first.
Go to a webpage with a full itinerary
Click the floating Tern button or toolbar icon
Set the import type to Itinerary Template
Click the trip field and select + New trip
Type a name for the new trip
Click Import as New Trip
The trip is created in Tern and the imported itinerary is added to it automatically. Any dates extracted from the page are applied to the trip.
Note: If you leave the trip name blank when + New trip is selected, the import will not proceed. A trip name is required. After a successful import, the new trip will appear in the trip list the next time you open the drawer.
Import an itinerary template
An itinerary template is a full itinerary with multiple activities—perfect for day-by-day itinerary pages.
Navigate to a webpage with a full itinerary
Click the floating Tern button or toolbar icon
Switch the dropdown from Activity template to Itinerary Template
Click Import Itinerary Template — this can take a few minutes
Click View Itinerary Template in Tern to open it in your library
Import an activity template
An activity is any single travel item—a hotel, flight, tour, restaurant, or transfer. You can import them two ways:
Full page: Click the floating Tern button in the corner of any travel webpage to pull in all the content at once.
Selected text: Highlight just the text you want, then click the Tern Icon that appears.
Steps:
Navigate to a travel webpage
Click the Tern icon, or highlight text and click the black Tern Icon
Choose a type: Lodging, Flight, Transportation, or Activity
Click Import activity — this can take up to a minute
Click the link to view it in your library
Import directly to a trip
You can now import activities directly into an existing trip—no need to add them to your library first. This is the fastest way to build an itinerary as you browse.
Steps:
Navigate to a travel webpage
Click the Tern icon, or highlight text and click the black Tern Icon
Choose Activity (Lodging, Flight, Transportation, etc.)
Select a trip from the dropdown
Choose an itinerary option and day within the trip
Click Import activity — this can take up to a minute
Click the link to view it in your trip
🆕 Pro tip! You can pin your trip itinerary selection to quickly import multiple activities into the same itinerary. Just select your trip and itinerary, click the pin icon, and the extension will pre-load that selection until you unpin it or clear the trip.
Import an email template

Switch the dropdown to Email template and optionally pick a folder
Click Import email template

Save images to your media library
Right-click any image on a travel website and select Add to Tern media library. Edit the filename and folder if you'd like, then click Save.
Supported formats: JPEG, PNG, GIF, WebP (max 10 MB)
Note: Some images are rendered as buttons and can't be right-clicked directly. If you don't see "Open image in new tab" in the right-click menu, the image can't be saved this way.
Settings
Click the gear icon in the top-right corner of the extension panel to adjust display options:
Show floating icon — toggles the circular Tern button on webpages
Show text selection icon — enables/disables the text selection feature
Settings sync across all devices where you're signed into Chrome.
Troubleshooting
I don't see the Tern icon in my toolbar. Go to
chrome://extensions/, make sure Tern is enabled, then click the puzzle piece and pin it.The floating icon isn't showing. Open the extension, go to Settings, and make sure Show floating icon is on.
The floating icon is in the way of website elements. The Tern floating icon can be dragged vertically and the position will persist uniquely across each tab.
I can't save an image. Make sure you're logged in and the image is under 10 MB. If the image doesn't show "Open image in new tab" when right-clicked, it can't be saved to Tern.
Import failed or got stuck. Check your library to see if it went through. If not, refresh the page and try again.
Login popup won't open. Your browser may be blocking popups. Allow popups for the Tern site and try again.
Known limitations (beta)
All activities on one day: Occasionally, trip imports land everything on a single day. You'll need to move activities manually.
Activities imported as info blocks: Same as above—manual migration needed.
Email templates don't import images: This is a known limitation; image support may come in a future update.
Migrating content from another platform
If you're moving to Tern from another travel CRM (like TravelJoy), you can use the Chrome extension to speed up the process. Navigate to your existing platform in Chrome, open the content you want to transfer, and use the import options above to bring it into Tern.
Note: Images and media may not always transfer with the imported content. If media is missing after import, right-click images on the source page and save them to your Tern media library separately.
