Tern supports host agency relationships — whether you're a host managing agencies and advisors beneath you, or a hosted agency or advisor whose host uses Tern to manage your team and subscription.

Who these articles are for

  • You're a host agency if you have agencies or advisors beneath you on Tern and you manage some combination of their subscriptions, team structure, trip and contact visibility, and commission reconciliation.

  • You're a hosted agency or advisor if your host manages your Tern subscription or team membership, regardless of whether they actively reconcile commission on your behalf.

  • You're a hosted agency and your host does not use Tern, but you want to more accurately track expected commission by accounting for your host's split.

For a deep dive on how commission reconciliation works - regardless of whether you are a host agency, we recommend this collection.

What Tern supports for host agencies

Tern's host agency features cover four areas:

If you are a hosted agency or advisor whose host is not using Tern to reconcile commission

  • Commission Reconciliation for Sub-Agency Owners — for agencies whose host manages their team and subscription in Tern but does not reconcile commission on their behalf.

  • Adding received commission for hosted agents — for agents whose host uses Tern for team management, billing, and/or a sync with their external back office system, but continues to reconcile and pay out commission externally

  • [Coming soon] Getting Accurate Expected Commission Reporting Without a Host on Tern — for agencies whose host is not on Tern at all and who want to track expected commission independently.
