When a price changes after your client authorizes payment, the old authorization no longer matches what you plan to charge. This article explains what Tern does and how to collect a fresh authorization.
How authorization amounts work
An authorization covers the exact amount, supplier, and dates your client approved. It is your client's documented permission to charge their card for that specific transaction, and it protects you from chargebacks only for what was approved. [VERIFY: Fin has been telling advisors a mismatched charge "won't go through" even when lower. The documentation frames a mismatch as a chargeback protection gap with an alert, not a blocked transaction. Confirm which is accurate before publishing.]
The merchant name on your client's statement does not need to match the supplier name you entered in Tern. If the receipt shows a parent company instead of the property name, the authorization still covers the charge as long as the amount matches.
What happens when you change details after authorization
Tern does not automatically expire or delete an authorization when you change important fields. Instead, you'll see an alert about the changed information when logging a payment from that authorization, to flag potential chargeback risk. The alert appears when any of these change:
The activity dates on the General Info tab
The Booking Supplier or the Price on the Booking & Pricing tab
Steps to collect a fresh authorization
Update the price on the activity
Delete the old authorization
Go to the activity's Booking & Pricing tab, find the authorization under Past Payments and Authorizations, and delete it. Deleting the authorization makes that amount "ready," and it appears again in the client form to authorize.Republish the trip
Have your client authorize the new amount
If their previous authorization was within the last 30 days, they can select the card details they already entered instead of typing them again.

How to avoid this
Confirm final pricing, including taxes and any optional add-ons, before you send the authorization request. This prevents back-and-forth with your client.
