This article covers the final steps before your campaign goes out.
Before You Start
Finish designing your campaign.
Create or choose the Segment you want to send to.
Confirm your business name, business address, and paid subscription are set up. See "Getting Started with Campaigns."
How to Send a Test Email
Select Send test. A copy of your campaign is sent to your own Tern email, with "[TEST]" added to the subject.
Test emails don't count toward your campaign stats and don't include an unsubscribe link. You can send up to 10 test emails per hour.
How to Review and Send
Select Review and send. The review drawer opens.
Fix any blockers. The drawer lists anything stopping your send, such as a missing subject, no audience, an empty email, or a missing business address. Each fixable item has a Fix action.
Check your audience. The drawer shows your Segment, how many recipients will receive the email, and how many are excluded. Contacts who aren't marked Subscribed are excluded. For a dynamic segment, this shows as "Estimated recipients," because the final count is set when the campaign actually sends.
Check the send time. You set it in the editor under Send time:
Send now to start sending immediately.
Schedule for later to pick a future date and time. Scheduled sends use your time zone.
Select the send button at the bottom of the drawer to confirm.
You'll Know It Worked When
A campaign you sent now moves to "Sending" and shows send progress. A scheduled campaign moves to "Scheduled" with its send time.
Why a Large Send Takes Several Days
Tern sends campaigns gradually to protect email deliverability for every advisor. Each account has a daily sending allowance.
If your campaign has more recipients than your daily allowance, it sends over several days. The review drawer tells you how many days it will take and when your daily limit resets. New senders start with a smaller daily allowance that grows as you send consistently.
This is expected behavior, not an error. Your campaign keeps sending each day until it's complete.
Common Issues
I need to change a scheduled campaign.
Cancel the schedule to return the campaign to draft. Your send time is kept, so you can reschedule from where you left off.
My scheduled campaign went back to draft.
If a campaign is no longer sendable when its scheduled time arrives (for example, your business address was removed or your subscription lapsed), Tern reverts it to draft and emails you the reasons. Fix the listed items and schedule it again.
I can't edit my campaign.
Once a campaign is scheduled, sending, or sent, it's locked and its content can't be edited. To make changes, duplicate it and edit the copy.
