Can I manually enter credit card information for clients?

To ensure the integrity of the CC authorization process, Tern does not currently support manually adding credit card information.

Unfortunately there is no way to manually enter in credit card details for your clients at this time. To preserve the integrity of the credit card authorization process in Tern, clients will have to add in their own credit card details.

The credit card authorization flow is the secure way to collect payment information. Card data entered through authorization is tokenized by a PCI-certified payment provider - the card number never touches Tern's servers directly. Each authorization creates a record of the exact amount authorized, your traveler's agreement to Terms and Conditions, and their electronic signature.

Do not store full credit card numbers in contact profiles, trip notes, or other text fields. These fields are not designed for payment card data and are not protected the same way as the authorization flow.

FAQ:

  • Why do I see my own credit card when I preview the authorization page?
When you preview the authorization flow, Tern shows your own saved payment methods because you are the logged-in user. You'll also see a banner that says "You are viewing this authorization in preview mode." Your client will never see your card. When they open the authorization link, they will see their own saved card (if they have one) or a blank form to enter their details.

  • Does "preview mode" mean my account isn't set up correctly? No. Preview mode appears whenever you (the advisor) open the authorization page. It's Tern showing you a read-only version of what your client will see. The form is intentionally disabled for you. If your settings are correct (2FA enabled, Terms & Conditions published, and "Use Tern to manage credit card authorizations" checked in Trip Settings), your client will see the full, fillable version when they open the link you send them.
