This article outlines an upcoming upgrade to Tern's email and calendar integration

Overview

Over the next few weeks, Tern is introducing a big upgrade to our email and calendar integration. It comes with some really exciting benefits, such as -

  • 2X faster email sync.

  • Increased email reliability - up to 10x better deliverability + improved tracking.

  • Improved experience for managing calendar events.

  • New calendar features - including Microsoft Teams/Google Meet integrations if they are supported through your synced calendar, and more!

As a part of this upgrade, we'll need to transition your account from the old version, to the new version.

What to expect from the transition

  • This is just a heads up - we'll be slowly transitioning accounts over the next few weeks, so you may not notice any changes right away.

  • If you have connected via Gmail or IMAP we'll automatically transition your account.

  • If you have connected a Microsoft account, once your account is ready for transition you will see a prompt to re-authenticate your email/calendar sync in Tern. No action is needed until that time, and you can keep using the current version until you re-authenticate.

  • If you use calendar scheduling links embedded on your website, in your email signature, or elsewhere outside of Tern, these links will need to be updated after the migration is complete. No action is required until your account is migrated, and we will provide the next steps at that time.

Microsoft users

Unfortunately, we are not able to automatically transition Microsoft accounts. What this means for you -

  • Again, no action is needed until you see a prompt to re-authenticate your account in the Tern product.

  • Don't worry - the old version will continue to work until you re-authenticate.

  • We will require you to transition to the new version in the future. We'll send you a few reminders if we notice you have not done so in the coming weeks.

Calendar benefits

Here's a full list of benefits with the new calendar experience -

  • Improved design and user experience.

  • Support for templated event titles with variables.

  • Time slot setting - customize the time slots that clients can schedule time for. Eg you could let them schedule meetings every 15 minutes for a 30 minute meeting.

  • Allow guests to invite additional guests to calls.

  • Add additional participants from your team (although their availability will not be synced).

  • New setting to hide the rescheduling option, and hide the cancellation option from clients.

  • Customize your logo, and the title/ additional information for booking confirmation emails.

  • Split out a separate buffer time before and after your events.

  • Microsoft teams and Google meet integrations.

  • Does this upgrade support a Zoom integration? No, not yet! But it does give Tern the ability to build one in the future, which wasn't previously possible. You can vote for this feature in our feedback tool.
