Commission setup

Where do I configure commission settings in Tern?

Commission settings are configured at the agency level in Settings. These settings establish how commissions are tracked and calculated across bookings.

How do I adjust the pay out date?

In your Settings, go to Agency > Financial Settings. From here, you can pick the Default Payout date for Commission Received Date, Travel Start Date, or Travel End Date.

How does Tern calculate commission amounts?

Commission amounts are calculated based on the booking value entered and the commission rate associated with that booking. The system uses the commission structure defined by the agency to determine totals.

Can commission rates differ from booking to booking?

Yes. Commission rates can be adjusted on individual bookings if needed, and can be done so manually by the agent on the booking itself. This allows flexibility when commission terms vary by supplier or booking type.


Commission splits

Can commissions be split between multiple agents on a booking?

Yes. Tern supports commission splits so commissions can be shared between multiple agents associated with the same booking. Step-by-step walkthrough here.

Do commission splits apply automatically to all bookings?

No. Commission splits are set per booking. They do not automatically apply unless configured for that specific booking.


Visibility into commissions

Can agents see their own commission information?

Agents can view their commission information by going to the Commissions Tab and viewing their independent bookings. They will have less visibility than the agency owner and only see their unique bookings and what commission has or has not been received.

Can Agency Owners see commission totals for all agents?

Yes. Agency Owners have visibility into commission data across the agency.


Commission tracking and reporting

Can I manually edit a commission amount once payment is received?

Yes. Commission values can be manually edited by booking if adjustments are required or payment was different than expected commission (e.g., changes from suppliers or corrections after booking).

Does Tern track whether commissions have been paid?

Tern allows you to record and track commission-related details alongside bookings. You can mark a statement as “Paid” as part of the commission reconciliation process. However, Tern does not facilitate the payment directly via our platform.

Can I export commission data?

Yes. Commission data can be exported from reports as CSV files for use in external accounting or reporting tools.
