Background

If you are an agency that has enforced commission rates for specific scenarios - like paying lower commission for trips/contacts sourced by you ("agency leads"), read on to learn about how to set that up.

There are two common scenarios we see come up, depending on the agency policy:

  • [Available now] Trip locking: when a new trip/contact lead comes in, the first trip with that contact is paid out at a lower commission rate. Any subsequent trips with that contact are at the standard rate.

    • For this scenario, commission should be locked on the first trip with that contact. We do not recommend locking commission on the contact itself.

  • [Coming soon] Contact locking: for contact leads generated by the agency, all trips will be paid out at the lower commission rate (indefinitely).

    • For this scenario, we recommend locking commission on the contact. Locked commission will be automatically applied to any trips with that contact moving forward.

Typical workflow

We typically see agency leads (trips or contacts) come in to an agency admin account - either manually inputted/uploaded, or via a form. Then the agency admin will lock the trip/contact at the preferred commission, and transfer ownership to the agent who will be working with the contact.

If you want to lock commission for a trip or contact that has already been transferred, you can also do this at any time by following the instructions below - just access the trip/contact in 'shared with me' first.

Locking commission rates on agency trips

1. Go to the trip, and scroll down to the Agency Sharing section

  • Tip: make sure the 'agency-managed trip' toggle is ON

2. Check the "lock commission type for all bookings" box and select the commission rate for the trip. This will immediately lock the commission rate for all bookings on the trip.

  • Tip: make sure you have set up your preferred commission rate first in Financial Settings. You can set the rate as a flat amount (eg Agency Leads get 60% commission), or an adjusted rate (eg Agency Leads get 10% lower commission than an agent's standard rate)

  • Note that any bookings that have already been submitted a booked will not be changed retroactively. Make sure to review and adjust the rate from your commission tab.

3. When an agent creates a booking, they'll see their split is locked and will be unable to edit it.

4. You can also filter to any trips with locked commission status from your trips dashboard

[Coming soon] Locking commission rates on contacts

Locking commission rates for contacts will be available within the next week.

FAQ

  • I'm not seeing the ability to lock commission for a trip - what could be going wrong?

    • First, make sure it's set to "agency-managed", and it's managed by an agency you are the admin of

    • Are you a host agency admin, trying to lock commission for a trip of a member agency? At this time commission rates are not available at the host level, but it is something we will work to support in the future.
