Updating Signature Preferences in Bulk

When you need to apply the same marketing codes or consent settings to a group of Signature clients, you can do it in one pass from your reports - no need to open each contact.

Before you start

The report you're working from needs the Tern Contact ID column - it's how Tern knows which contacts to update. If it's missing, you'll see an error when you open the tool. Add the column from the Add tab and try again.

Running an update

  • Navigate to the Reporting page, open a report, and open the action menu to access the Update consortia preferences action.

  • You can drill down to specific contact segments via Explore in the action menu. You can use the Update consortia preferences action from any report's action menu.

  • Choose the Signature tab, set your changes, and click Update preferences button. You can update preferences for one consortium at a time; switching tabs clears your selections.

Setting marketing consent

The Marketing consent section sets email, phone, and direct-mail preferences across every selected contact. Each channel has three options:

  • Opt in β€” turn the channel on for everyone

  • Opt out β€” turn it off for everyone

  • Leave as-is β€” keep each contact's current setting

Anything you leave as-is won't change, so you can update one channel without touching the others.

Note: the following requirements must be met for each marketing consent category to apply.

  • Email marketing requires a valid email and Signature Client match

  • Print marketing requires a valid address

Adding and removing codes

Under Marketing codes to add and Marketing codes to remove, choose the codes to apply or strip from every selected contact. Use the search box to find codes quickly. A code you add is applied to everyone; a code you remove is stripped from everyone who has it.

In this example, the 12 contacts from the report will have the Uniworld and Tauck River Cruises marketing codes added, whereas the River Cruises marketing code would be removed.

After you update

Your contacts' preferences update right away - open a contact to confirm the codes and consent landed. Changes sync to Signature for contacts already connected to your Signature account.

Your Signature reports take a little longer to catch up. Check the last updated time in the reporting tab; once it refreshes, your Signature reports will reflect the changes you just made.

Good to know

  • One consortium per update. Run Signature, TLN, and Virtuoso separately.

  • Switching tabs clears your work. Tern asks you to confirm first.

  • Leaving the page warns you if you still have unsaved selections.

  • Contacts you can't edit are skipped. The confirmation tells you how many were updated and how many were skipped.
