Hotels by Tern: Commission and Agency Economics

C
Written by Charles Sustaita

Every Hotels by Tern booking earns a flat 10% commission at launch. Tern pays it to your agency the Friday after your client checks out, into your agency's bank account with no processing fees (Canadian dollar accounts pay an FX fee).

How Commission Works

  • Commission. Flat 10% on every booking. We are exploring adding the ability for advisors to set dynamic commissions, with agency controls.

  • Who gets paid. The agency that owns the accreditation used on the booking. For example, if you book under your host's accreditation, your host is paid. Tern doesn't pay advisors directly.

  • When. Tern holds commission until checkout and pays the Friday after checkout, into the bank account your agency connected during onboarding. Commission is paid only after your bank account is verified.

  • Currency. Commission is paid in USD. If your agency's bank account is in Canadian dollars, your commission statement includes an FX fee, and the amount you receive moves with the exchange rate. A USD bank account avoids both.

  • Reconciliation. If your agency uses Tern's back office, bookings are matched on your commission statement automatically. Your agency still reviews exceptions.

  • Advisor payouts. Your agency pays advisors under its existing agreements, as it does today.

Is There a Commission Floor or Minimum?

Not today. Every booking pays the same flat 10%, so there's no floor to set.
