Introducing the New Text Editor!

We’re excited to roll out Tern’s new rich text editor - now live across nearly all of Tern, with support for trips and messaging coming soon.

What’s New in the Editor

The new editor brings a streamlined and flexible experience to writing and formatting in Tern. Here’s what you’ll notice when using it:

Clean Interface with Clear Actions

When you open the editor, you’ll see a simplified toolbar at the top that clearly shows available formatting options. This makes it easy to create organized, readable content - whether you’re typing fresh content or copying from another source.

Whats New?

The editor supports a range of features to help you organize and present your content clearly:

  • Better support for undo/redo, including visible buttons for those actions so you don't need to rely on keyboard shortcuts.

  • Easier to access text formatting controls for bold, bullets, headings, etc.

  • You can now add rich text content like headings, images, and bullets inside of tables.

  • Mobile formatting support for text color, tables and embedded videos.

  • Variables will be much easier to add from the toolbar, no longer requiring you to select text to replace it with a variable.

What's Changed?

  • Captions on images, quotes and videos

    • Captions can no longer be added directly to images, quotes, or videos in the New Editor. We recommend placing any supporting text directly below the item instead.

    • The Old Editor also lacked accessibility support for captions, and this is something we’re considering for future improvements.

  • Saved Hex Color and Color Wheel

    • While you can still apply custom hex colors in the New Editor, it does not save or display your previously used colors or show a color wheel for selection. If you frequently use specific hex codes, we recommend keeping a quick reference handy for reuse. And please send us any feedback on this.

  • Inserting new blocks

    • The New Editor does not support block-level tools like “Move up,” “Move down,” or the block insert menu (such as the “+” icon) found in the Old Editor.

    • To reorder content, we recommend using copy and paste. Thanks to improved text selection and formatting behavior, this is now much smoother and more predictable than before.

Where You’ll Find It - Editor Roadmap

As we move through our roadmap, we plan to bring the editor to additional parts of the Tern platform where formatted content is helpful.

Trips Editor: Mobile App Rollout

What to expect

Once the new editor goes live, any trip or activity content you edit and republish will update for your clients as expected. However, if your travelers are using an older version of the Tern mobile app, they will see missing formatting, images and videos for the sections you’ve updated using the new editor.

What we're doing

To help with this, we’ll display a message in the app encouraging those travelers to update to the latest version. Content will still appear, but formatting and media will be missing until they update. This won’t affect travelers using offline mode or those who haven’t had their trip republished recently.

What you can do

While we'll prompt travelers to update through the app message, you may want to give your clients a heads-up when you're republishing their trips with new content. Something simple like "I've updated your itinerary - make sure you have the latest Tern app to see all the new features!"

How to Share Feedback

We’d love to hear from you. Your thoughts and suggestions are critical to helping us refine and expand the editor.
