Can I Recover Deleted Trips or Itinerary Components in Tern?

Overview

Recovering deleted trips or individual itinerary components in Tern depends on the scope and timing of the deletion. While some deleted items may be recoverable within a specific period, others may require manual recreation.

Recovering Entire Trips

To recover a deleted trip, follow these steps:

  1. Access the Trash Folder: - Navigate to the Trips tab in your dashboard. - Click the three dots next to the Display button to open the Trash view. - If the Trash view is not visible, refresh your browser and ensure no filters are hiding it.

  2. Restore the Trip: - Select the deleted trip from the Trash folder. - Click the Restore option to return the trip to the Trips tab with its previous status. - Note: If you choose to destroy the trip instead, it will be permanently deleted and cannot be recovered.

If a full trip or itinerary has been deleted, it can often be recovered using the Trash folder feature. Navigate to the Trips tab in your dashboard, click the three dots next to the Display button to open the Trash view, and select the deleted trip to restore it. If the Trash view is not visible, refresh your browser and ensure no filters are hiding it. Note that if you choose to destroy the trip instead, it will be permanently deleted and cannot be recovered.

Recovering Individual Itinerary Components

Deleting an entire itinerary option removes the option and all of its activities (including ones you added manually). Unlike single activities, a deleted option can be recovered — contact Tern support within 7 days of deletion and we can restore it. After 7 days it is permanently removed. This is different from deleting a single activity or lodging block, described below.

For individually deleted components, such as specific lodging or activity blocks, recovery is not possible at this time. When a component is deleted individually or as part of a date update that includes a deletion option, it is permanently removed from the system. To address this, you can manually recreate the activity or use Tern's AI Assist feature to simplify the process.

Additionally, if you encounter issues with disappearing itinerary items due to system behaviors, such as accepting parsed flight information, follow these steps to resolve them:

  1. Check the Timeline: - Scroll further in your itinerary to locate components that seem to be missing. They may have been moved to dates outside the current view.

  2. Adjust the Flight Information: - Move the flight details to the correct spot in the itinerary.

  3. Update Trip Dates: - Adjust the overall trip dates to align with the revised timeline.

These steps should restore the visibility of all your itinerary items. Note that no information is lost in this scenario; it is simply moved based on the new date range set by the parsed flight data.

Upcoming System Improvements

Tern is actively working on new features to allow users to restore deleted itinerary components themselves in future updates. This development aims to provide additional flexibility and ease for managing trips and activities effectively.

Summary

  • Entire trips can be recovered within 7 days by contacting Tern support.

  • A deleted itinerary option (and all its activities) can be recovered within 7 days by contacting Tern support; after that it is permanent.

  • Individual components like lodging or activities cannot be recovered but can be manually recreated.

  • Future system updates may introduce self-serve recovery options for deleted components.

If you’ve accidentally deleted a trip or its components, act quickly to explore available recovery options or rebuild your itinerary manually.
