Tern Pro is an upcoming, optional add-on to your Tern subscription that expands your monthly AI usage, increases your notetaker hours, and unlocks Custom Reporting.
Tern Pro add-ons will be available in mid-June to add to your subscription. This article covers what Tern Pro includes, the available tiers, how to add it and answers to common questions.
Tern Pro Tiers
Tern pro expands your monthly AI usage, increases your notetaker hours, and unlocks Custom Reporting. You can select a Tern Pro tier that meets your AI usage or Notetaker needs:

How usage and billing work
Tern Pro is billed monthly only. Even if you're on an annual subscription, you pay for Tern Pro monthly. You can't pay for Tern Pro on an annual basis.
When you add Tern Pro, Tern aligns your Tern Pro charge with your subscription so you're billed for both on the same day.
Your AI usage limit resets on a schedule that depends on your plan:
If you have an individual subscription (monthly or annual), your limit resets on your billing date.
If you're on an agency-paid seat with no individual subscription, your limit resets on the first of the month.
When you add or change Tern Pro mid-cycle, you pay a prorated amount that day, then the full tier price on each billing date after that. You get your full Tern Pro AI usage right away, even though the first charge is prorated.
Note: AI usage limits begin enforcing on July 1, 2026.
Adding Tern Pro to your account
In mid-June, you’ll be able to add Tern Pro to your account on your Subscription Settings page before usage limits go into effect on July 1, 2026.
Once available, each advisor will manage their own Tern Pro add-on. If you're on an agency-paid seat and want more AI usage, you’ll be able to add Tern Pro on top of your seat. The Tern Pro add-on is billed to your personal account, separate from the agency's seat charges.
If you're an agency owner, you won't need to do anything to set up Tern Pro for your advisors. They each decide whether they want to add it.
Go to Settings, then Subscriptions. You'll see your current plan and the available Tern Pro add-ons.
Choose a Tern Pro tier and click "Add to plan." This takes you to a Stripe checkout.
Review the prorated amount due today. You're charged a prorated amount for the rest of the current cycle, then the full tier price on your billing date going forward.
Pay by card and click "Subscribe." You're taken back to the Subscriptions page.
How to switch tiers
Go to Settings, then Subscriptions.
Click "Manage" on your Tern Pro add-on. You'll see your selected tier.
Select a different tier and confirm. If you upgrade, you pay a prorated amount that day, then the new monthly price on each billing date after that. Upgrades take effect immediately.
How to cancel Tern Pro
Go to Settings, then Subscriptions.
Click "Manage" on your Tern Pro add-on, then "Cancel." Cancellation takes effect at your next billing cycle. You keep the AI usage you purchased until the current period ends.
Note: If you cancel your individual Tern subscription, your Tern Pro add-on is canceled at the same time.
Common Questions
Will I be able to switch between Tern Pro tiers any time? Yes. Upgrades will take effect immediately with a prorated charge. Downgrades will take effect at your next billing cycle.
Will I be charged if I go over my limit? No. Tern does not charge overage fees. If you reach 100% of your AI limit, AI features pause until your next cycle resets or until you upgrade. Note: limits will not be enforced until July 1, 2026.
Does Custom Reporting use my AI usage allotment? Custom Reporting is included with every Tern Pro tier as a separate feature but using AI assist within Custom Reporting is counted towards your AI usage.
What happens to my Tern Pro if I cancel my base Tern subscription? If you cancel your base Tern subscription and you have no agency seat, your Tern Pro add-on will be canceled at the same time. To re-subscribe to Tern Pro later, you'll need to restart your base Tern subscription first.
I have an annual subscription. Can I pay for Tern Pro annually? No. Tern Pro is billed monthly only. Tern aligns your monthly Tern Pro charge and usage reset with your subscription date.
Can I add Tern Pro if I'm on an agency-paid seat? Yes. Each advisor manages their own Tern Pro add-on. If you're on an agency-paid seat and want more AI usage, you can add Tern Pro on top of your seat. The add-on is billed to your personal account, separate from the agency's seat charges. If you're an agency owner, you don't need to do anything to set up Tern Pro for your advisors. They each decide whether to add it.
What happens if I lose my agency seat? If you have a personal Tern Pro add-on and your agency seat is removed, your Tern Pro add-on is not automatically canceled. You'll get an email reminding you that you still have Tern Pro on your account. To cancel, go to Subscription Settings and end your Tern Pro subscription.
What happens to my Tern Pro if I cancel my base Tern subscription? If you cancel your base Tern subscription and you have no agency seat, your Tern Pro add-on is canceled at the same time. To re-subscribe to Tern Pro later, restart your base Tern subscription first.
