Setting a location for a trip day

How to set a location on a trip day in Tern, what the location autocomplete suggests, and how the location affects time zones.

Written by Angie Pili

Set a location on a trip day to give the itinerary geographic context and to set the correct time zone for that day.

What it does

A trip day location tells Tern where that part of the trip takes place. It adds geographic context to the itinerary and sets the time zone used for that day, so activity times display correctly for your travelers.

How it works

When you set a location on a trip day, start typing in the location field. Tern suggests matching places as you type. The suggestions include all place types, such as cities, regions, landmarks, airports, and points of interest, not just cities. Select the place that best fits the day.

If no location is set, times for that day default to UTC.

Steps

  1. Open the trip and go to the Itinerary tab.

  2. Select the trip day you want to set a location for.

  3. Start typing in the location field. Tern suggests matching places as you type.

  4. Select a place from the list. Choose the specific place that fits the day, such as a landmark or airport, or a broader city or region.

You'll know it worked when

The location appears on the trip day, and activities on that day use its time zone.
