This guide will take you through the initial process of creating a trip in Tern. It's the first in the series of helping you get started with Tern.

You'll need to be logged into Tern to access this workflow.

2. Click on Create Trip

3. Give your trip a name

We suggest using a name that you'll immediately recognize. For us, we like to use the last name of the travelers and their destination but how you name your trips is totally to you! Just remember, your travelers will see this on the top of their itinerary!

4. Define a trip status

Trip statuses are meant to indicate where a trip is at in your process. When you first start using Tern you'll see a default list here. You can always change these in your settings.

Define a trip status

5. Define a date range or don't!

If you know the dates of a trip you can define them here. If you don't exactly when your clients will be traveling, you can click "determine later" and come back to it.

Define a date range or don't!

6. Create the trip!

That's all that's required to create a new trip in Tern. Click the create trip button and you'll be brought to the trip overview page.

7. Add a cover image

Beautiful imagery is at the heart of what makes Tern special. Take a moment to add a cover photo to your trip. This is the image that will show at the top of each itinerary page next to the description.

Hover over the image button next to Option 1 and it will turn into an Edit Pencil

Click the Edit Pencil to add a Cover Photo.

Add a Cover Photo here.

8. Add an overview statement

The overview statement is a description that will show up at the top of your itineraries:

We suggest using this to frame the trip at a high level. The perfect overview will get travelers excited about what they can expect as they dig into the details of the itinerary. Note: you don't have to do this right away, you can add this at any point. We suggest adding it before sharing an itinerary with your clients.

9. Save the Overview Statement and Cover Photo by clicking Update Itinerary.

10. Add your travelers

You can add your travelers to the trip by clicking "Manage Travelers". Just adding a traveler to a trip does NOT send any notifications to them but it is required to share the itinerary in future steps.

11. Search or Create Travelers

If your travelers already have profiles in Tern you can add them to the trip easily. If not, you can click "Create New Contact" to add them and keep track of key information about them.

These are the initial steps to creating a trip in Tern. Now you are ready to add itinerary items to the trip!
