Key Reporting Terms

Reporting uses some common data terms, and understanding these will help you make the most of your dashboards.

Business Metrics

  • Commission: The earnings associated with a booking. Depending on your agency setup, this can include base commission, bonuses, overrides, or shared splits.

  • KPI (Key Performance Indicator): A measurable value that reflects how effectively you’re achieving your business goals, such as total sales, number of trips booked, or commissions earned.

  • Projected/Expected Commission: The amount you anticipate earning once a supplier pays the commission.

  • Received Commission: Commission that has already been paid to you and recorded in Tern.

  • Sales: The total value of all trips booked within a specific timeframe, giving you insight into your overall productivity and business volume.

Filters & Key Data Points

  • Booking Date: The date a trip is created in Tern. Some reports use this date to track activity based on when bookings were made.

  • MTD (Month to Date): Data from the first day of the current month through today.

  • Travel Date: The date the client is scheduled to depart. Certain reports use this date to measure performance tied to actual travel.

  • Underlying Data: The detailed information that supports a summary number, allowing you to drill down into individual trips, transactions, or clients.

  • YTD (Year to Date): Data from January 1 of the current year through today.
