If your host agency is covering your Tern seat, you don't need to choose a plan. You join Tern by accepting the invitation email your agency sends you.
This article is for advisors joining an agency that works under a host agency. If you're an agency owner accepting an invitation from a host, see Host agency management.
Why Tern Is Asking You to Choose a Plan
Tern shows the plan selection screen when it can't find a paid invitation for the email address you signed in with. This happens for one of three reasons:
Your agency hasn't sent your invitation yet.
You signed up with a different email address than the one your agency invited.
Your agency invited you without covering your seat.
Work through the steps below before you choose a plan.
Before We Jump In
Covered seat: a Tern subscription that your host agency or agency owner pays for on your behalf.
Invitation email: the email from Tern that asks you to join your agency. It goes to the email address your agency owner has on file for you.
Agency owner: the person who manages your agency's team in Tern. This is the person who sends your invitation.
Accepting Your Invitation
Find your invitation email. Search your inbox for an email from Tern inviting you to join your agency. Check your spam and promotions folders too
Open the email on the device you'll use for Tern. Use the same device and browser you plan to sign in with day to day.
Click Accept. This connects your account to your agency and your covered seat. You won't be asked to choose a plan.
You're all set!
Invitation Troubleshooting
To access an account linked to a travel agency on Tern, you need to accept an invitation sent by the agency. If you haven’t received the invitation:
Check Your Email Folders: Look in your spam, junk, or promotions folder to ensure the invitation email hasn't been filtered out.
Request a Resend from Your Agency: If you cannot find the invitation email, ask your agency administrator to resend it.
Email Search: Agents can search their inbox for [email protected] to locate the invitation faster.
Specific Sender Email: Search for messages sent from [email protected] in your email folders.
Note: As an advisor, you can only accept your invitation from the invitation email. There is no option for advisors to accept an invitation from inside Tern. If you can't accept from the email, contact Tern support and we can accept it for you.
Expired Invitations
If you encounter an "invite expired" error:
Notify your agency administrator to resend the invitation, which will generate a fresh link.
Ensure you access the new invitation promptly before it expires again.
If Something Doesn't Match
If you don't have an invitation email
Contact your agency owner and ask them to send your invitation to the email address you use for Tern.
If your invitation went to a different email address than the one you signed up with
You have two options:
Change the email address on your current Tern account to match the invited email. See How can I update my primary email address on my Tern account. Then open the invitation and click Accept.
Ask your agency owner to send a new invitation to the email address you signed up with.
If your invitation says your agency is not covering your subscription
Your agency invited you without a covered seat, so Tern will ask you to choose a plan. Confirm with your agency owner whether they plan to cover your seat before you choose one.
If You Already Chose a Plan
You don't need to cancel anything yourself. When you accept a paid invitation, Tern cancels your personal subscription and issues a prorated refund if you were charged.
When to Contact Support
Contact Tern support if any of these apply:
You accepted your invitation and Tern still asks you to choose a plan.
You can't open or accept your invitation email.
Your agency owner confirms they sent an invitation, but you can't find it.
When you reach out, include the email address you sign in with and your agency owner's name. We use these to check your invitation status.
