Set a sales or commission target for your agency and each advisor, then watch everyone's progress right on your dashboard.
Before You Start
You must be an agency owner or admin with permission to manage agency settings. Owners and admins have this by default.
Goals use your agency's reporting currency.
Key Terms
Goal: a target for a date range. One goal holds the agency's target plus a target for each advisor.
Sales: gross bookings, counted by booking date. This is the same figure as the Analytics section of your dashboard.
Commission received: commission your agency has received, counted by the date it was received.
Pace: where the agency ends the goal period if it keeps selling at its current rate.
How to Create a Goal
Go to Back office > Dashboard.
If your agency has no goals yet, you'll see "Set your agency's first goal."
Click + New goal.
The New goal drawer opens with this calendar year's dates and Sales selected.
Set the Starts and Ends dates.
You can use any date range. If the dates match a full calendar month, quarter, or year, Tern names the goal for it ("October 2026," "Q4 2026," "2026"). Any other range is named by its dates.
Choose what to Track: Sales or Commission received.
Note: You can't change this once the goal has targets saved, since the targets were set in those terms.
Choose who the goal is for under Goal for.
Agency: enter one target. Tern splits it evenly across your active advisors in whole amounts, and any remainder goes to the last advisor. If an advisor joins later, they have no target until you change the agency target, which splits it again across all active advisors.
Each advisor: enter a target per advisor. The agency's target is the total of all advisor targets. Leave a target blank to give that advisor no goal.
Each target shows last year's figure for the same dates as a reference.
Choose Who can see it.
See the table below.
Click Create goal.
You'll see "Goal saved," and the goal appears in the Goals section. You're all set!
Who Can See It
Admins always see every goal in full on the Back Office dashboard. This setting controls what advisors see on My Dashboard.
Setting | What advisors see |
Admins only | Nothing. The goal stays with admins. |
Their own progress | Progress toward their own target only. Advisors without a target see nothing. |
Their share of the agency goal (default) | Their own progress, plus the agency's progress and their share of it as percentages. No amounts for the agency, and other advisors stay anonymous. |
Everyone's progress | The agency's progress in your agency's currency, broken down by advisor, with names. |
If a goal shows an advisor nothing under these settings, the Goals section doesn't appear on their My Dashboard at all.
Reading the Goals Section
Each goal that covers today shows as one row:
Top performers (or Top earners for commission): the five advisors with the most sales in the period, with everyone else grouped as "Other."
Agency progress: total so far, the goal, what remains, and percent of goal.
Pace: "On pace for $X by [end date] (Y% of goal)."
If several goals cover today, the shortest one shows first.
When Pace Shows
Pace shows only for goals that track Sales, once enough of the period has passed and your agency has enough sales history for a reliable estimate. Commission goals never show pace, because commission arrives after travel and doesn't build evenly through a period.
Pace scales your sales so far to the full period. It doesn't account for seasonality. Advisors never see pace.
How to Edit or Delete a Goal
Go to Back office > Dashboard.
Click the edit icon on the goal's Agency progress card.
Make your changes and click Save changes.
Changing only the dates or Who can see it keeps every target as it is. Changing the agency target splits it again across your current active advisors.
To remove a goal, click Delete goal and confirm. Deleting removes the goal and all its targets, and you can't undo it.
Common Issues
A goal I created doesn't appear
A goal shows only while today falls between its start and end dates. Goals that haven't started or have already ended don't appear on either dashboard.
I don't see a pace line
Pace shows only on Sales goals, once enough of the period has passed and your agency has enough sales history for a reliable estimate. If those don't apply yet, the line stays hidden.
"Goal needs updating"
The goal was set before your agency changed its reporting currency. Edit the goal and enter the targets again in the new currency to keep tracking. Until you do, advisors don't see that goal's progress on My Dashboard. They still see their share of sales or the top performers.
An advisor isn't in the target list
Only active advisors at your agency appear. Add or reactivate them in your team settings first. If they joined after the goal was set, edit the goal and either change the agency target to split it again, or switch Goal for to Each advisor and give them a target.
I don't see the Goals section
Click Customize on the dashboard and make sure Goals is turned on.
