Option blocks are a great tool for when you want to present your clients with choices between a few different lodging choices, activities, flights, or other itinerary components. Option blocks create an interactive section on the client's itinerary that they can use to explore and indicate their preference.

In this article we'll walk through how to use option blocks to present clients with three hotel options for their trip to Cabo.

1. Navigate to the Itinerary tab

First navigate to the Itinerary tab on the trip you want to add an option block to.

2. Drag an Options item to the itinerary

You should drag the option block onto the day you want your client to see the choice.

3. Provide a name for the option block

This is a client facing name for the block, so make sure it's something your clients will understand. It will show on the itinerary above the options.

4. Add an Options description

5. Return to the Full Itinerary

6. Drag multiple items into the Option block

Drag and drop the activity type you want to add into the option block. Because option blocks are meant to give clients a choice between like items, all options within a block need to be of the same type. For example, you can't have a lodging choice and a flight choice in the same block. In our example, we're going to add three hotels.

After you add three options, the block will look like this:

Each time you add an item to the option block, it will open that item for you to edit the information for that option.

7. Fill out the information fields for each option

In this case, we'll use Tern's AI Assist feature to generate a description of the hotel using the hotel website and save us time. Be sure to fill out all other information needed as well.

8. Enter an activity name your clients will understand

For the most part, the details you add on the activity will be visible to your clients. So you'll want to make sure the copy you write will make sense to your travelers.

9. Drag multiple activity items into the block and repeat the process.

You can repeat the process for as many activities as you'd like to present your client with. Note: we suggest limiting how many options and option blocks you use in an itinerary. Providing clients with a few choices can be a powerful way for them to feel some control in designing their trip, but too many can cause decision fatigue. Every trip is different, but we find that 2-3 options per block and 2-3 option blocks per itinerary is a good guide.

10. Once you've added your Options, preview the itinerary

You can use the preview itinerary button to see exactly what your clients will see when you share the itinerary with them.

12. You can see a summary of the options on the summary page. For the detailed view click on "Full Itinerary" and scroll to the day you added the Option block to.

13. Toggle between Options

You can see the details about the options and click "Learn More" to see the detailed view. This is the same view your clients will have.

14. That's it!

You've successfully used option blocks to present your clients with options.
