What we shipped this quarter

Beyond the product updates above, this quarter's biggest launches are all about AI Chat. From building trips and drafting emails to reviewing itineraries and matching clients to supplier campaigns, see everything it can do in the sections below.


AI to save you time

Getting started with AI Chat

AI Chat is accessible from anywhere in Tern. Open the slide-out drawer from any page, pick up previous conversations, and start new ones with suggested action chips. As of the June 10 webinar, the AI Chat widget is on by default on your home dashboard β€” go to Customize settings to turn it off if preferred.

Entity attachments

When you open AI Chat from any page in Tern, the relevant entity β€” trip, contact, task, or note β€” is automatically attached so the AI has the right context from the start. No need to type "can you look at this trip?" If you're on a trip page, the trip is already there. If you're on a task, both the task and its linked trip are attached automatically.

You can also manually attach entities using the plus button in the chat window to add any combination of trips, contacts, notes, or tasks before asking your question.

Research and summarize client details

Ask AI Chat to pull from all your sources at once β€” past trips, the form they just submitted, notes from previous calls β€” and summarize what you need to know before planning. You can also search and read client form responses directly in chat at any time.

Search and recommend cruises from client context

Ask AI Chat to suggest cruises based on what you know about your client β€” their past trips, preferences, notes, or form responses. The AI searches the cruise library and returns options matched to their interests.

From quote to itinerary

Attach a supplier quote, confirmation, or proposal directly in chat β€” a PDF, image, or text file β€” and ask the AI to build a trip from it. Works for cruise quotes, DMC proposals, and supplier confirmations. The AI extracts the details, builds the structure, and presents a confirmation card before saving anything.

Add photos to your itinerary

Ask the assistant to find and attach Unsplash stock photos as cover images for your itineraries or individual activities. A thumbnail gallery appears in the conversation β€” browse, select, and attach in one step without leaving chat.

Draft personalized emails from client and form data

Ask AI Chat to draft a personalized outbound email using everything it knows about the client β€” their form responses, past trips, preferences, and your writing style. The AI writes the message, you review and approve before it sends.

Submit booking to agency

AI Chat can help advisors submit bookings to their agency automatically. The AI knows what a complete booking submission requires and can handle most of the process in one step. The draft booking skill shipped June 9.

Destination guides

Ask AI Chat to create a personalized destination guide for each day of a trip β€” written in your style, tailored to your clients. The AI reads the full trip context, understands your writing preferences, and produces a guide that feels personal rather than generic.

Packing lists

Ask AI Chat to create a packing list based on the details of the trip. The AI reads every aspect of the itinerary β€” destinations, activities, weather context, trip length β€” and writes for you in your style.

Trip review

Ask the AI to "review this trip" before sending it to the client. It analyzes the full itinerary against a checklist covering logistics gaps, schedule conflicts, booking status, traveler assignment, and content quality. Findings are grouped by severity so you can fix the most important things first.

Voice input

Speak instead of type anywhere in AI Chat or Notes. Voice input uses your browser's built-in voice-to-text and transcribes speech directly into the message field in real time. The transcription itself does not draw from your AI usage allotment β€” only if you ask questions about the transcript afterward does it use AI.

AI Writing Style Guide

Configure a personal writing style under Branding Settings. Set your tone, preferences, and dos and don'ts β€” the AI applies your voice whenever it drafts emails or content on your behalf.


Connecting your Email to Tern

Marketing: match supplier emails to contacts

Ask AI Chat to read your most recent marketing email from a supplier and find the clients in your database who would be a good fit for it. The AI searches across your contacts and returns a matched list β€” ready to reach out.

Update contacts from chat

Add family members, create contacts with shared addresses, and update contact details directly from a conversation. Ask the AI to pull contact info from an email and create linked contacts automatically.

Inbox Intelligence and email agents

Tern automatically detects travel-related emails and links them to the right trip. When a client forwards a flight confirmation, Tern parses it and adds it to the trip automatically. For incoming booking confirmations, the AI reads the email and creates the activity in your itinerary.

Email triage is available to all advisors and is off by default. Turn it on in your email and scheduling settings. Note: email triage draws from your monthly AI usage allotment and can add up quickly β€” monitor it in the usage categories breakdown in your Subscription Settings.


AI to provide better and more personalized service

Run AI Agent actions in Automations is currently in closed beta.

Tern's workflow builder lets you create rules that trigger automatically based on trip or advisor activity. A new Run AI Agent action is now available in automations β€” trigger an AI Chat session automatically when a trip reaches a certain status. A few examples of what's possible:

  • Review trip when status changes to Booked β€” automatically run a trip review when a booking is confirmed so nothing slips through before it goes to the client. πŸ“½οΈ Watch the demo β†’

  • Draft email when status changes to Proposal Sent β€” automatically draft a personalized follow-up email to send to the client when a proposal is ready. πŸ“½οΈ Watch the demo β†’

Set up personalized automated email sequences for trip updates, payment reminders, and contact follow-ups.


Tern Pro and AI usage limits

AI usage limits go into effect July 1, 2026. Until then, you can use all AI features without restriction and track your usage in Subscription Settings.

Your monthly AI allotment now combines both AI features and AI Notetaker hours into a single usage limit. You can see a breakdown by feature category β€” AI Chat, email triage, AI Assist, and more β€” in your Subscription Settings to understand exactly where your usage is going.

Note: The Tern support chat (the blue help widget) does not count toward your AI usage. Voice input transcription also does not count β€” only queries about the transcript do. Only AI Chat, AI Assist, the Chrome extension, AI reconciliation, email categorization, and the notetaker draw from your monthly allotment.

Upgrade purchasing opens June 24. Enforcement begins July 1.


More AI tools

These tools launched in Q1 and are part of the full Tern AI suite.

AI Notetaker

The AI Notetaker joins your Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams calls, transcribes them, and generates structured notes in Tern automatically. Audio and video are processed then deleted. They are not stored.

Chrome Extension

Browse any travel website and import activities, images, templates, and supplier content directly into your Tern library with one click.
